Books I've Read So Far:

Sideways Stories from Wayside School, by Louis Sachar. Goodreads summary:"The Wayside School was supposed to be one story high, with 30 classrooms side by side; instead, rooms were built atop each other - 30 stories tall."  I read this one out of nostalgia because my fifth grade teacher Mr. Litchfield read a chapter a day aloud to us and had a coffee tin of tootsie roll pops to reward students just like Mrs. Jewls would! It was a funny and bizarre book to read as a child, but I caught several typos and grammar/tense errors when re-reading it.  I'm sure that my edition is outdated, but it was still a bummer to catch these errors years later.
Matilda, by Roald Dahl. Goodreads summary: "Matilda Wormwood's father is a mean crooked crook. And her mother's just plain stupid. They think Matilda is nuisance who should watch more TV and read fewer books! But her lovely teacher Miss Honey thinks Matilda is a genius. Matilda has a few extraordinary tracks up her sleeve, so her horrible parents and even more horrible headmistress had better watch out."  Another one out of nostalgia (and for Roald Dahl day on 9/13!).  I never paid any attention to this detail before, but while re-reading Matilda, I realized that Miss Honey was only 23 when she was gained custody of Matilda!  I used to think that 23 was old - but now that I'm past that age (ONLY A BIT... okay, a few years past 23), I can't imagine taking care of a 6 year old at my age, let alone at 23.  ALSO: re-reading this book has also made me yearn for Trunchbull's chocolate cake.  Anyone out there have amazing chocolate cake recipes?!
