Villette in March: Week 5
This week covers chapter 27-33:
Last week, What Red Read and I demanded a juicy party drama of telenovela-proportions, but thaaaat was disappointing. Dearest Lucy, you need to get over Dr. John ASAP. He majorly friendzoned you. He friendzoned you so badly that it could only get worse if he had told you "I wish you were actually a boy so we could have been even better friends when we were kids". OH WAIT. HE DID.
The love-hate grows stronger with M. Paul, but we're seeing that Lucy is getting better (a little better) at speaking her mind and challenging him as well. CB is really on board with using the "as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" proverb to build up the relationship between Lucy and M. Paul. I can see how her personality starts to shine when she
The watchguard chapter is all about their adorable and clumsy relationship. She crafts him a watchguard for his birthday, but the other folks at the b-day bash get him flowers per tradition. So then M. Paul is all like "j'accuse! zat eez a shame you do not know zee customs, for you are, ugh, english." After both their respective outbursts, she ends up giving it to him afterward anyway and I love that he puts it on immediately.
In chapter 31, we find out that M. Paul can also see zee nun! Vat?!
Polly comes back from her latest trip and hangs out with Lucy. She's very sweet and determined not to end up like thoughtless cousin Ginevra, so she consults with Lucy because she received a letter from Dr. John too - except it's a letter of luuuuuurve. Ouch. However, Lucy agrees that they're a good match and advises her because she's a good friend like that.
