First Visit To The Library

To clarify the title, this is my first visit, not to *A* library, but *THE* Minneapolis Central Library!

The library is only a half mile from my apartment, so I walked.  On the way, I spotted the beautiful Voya building and had to take a photo of it.  The marbled granite slabs and the long and slender pillars are reflected into the shallow pool along side the building.

When I got to the library, I was surprised at how beautiful and modern it looked!  Definitely not what I'm used to seeing when I think about the "library aesthetic".  The librarian who signed me up for my library card informed me that this branch is 8 years old.  It was designed by César Pelli, the Argentine architect who also designed the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia and the World Financial Center in New York.

The first floor has adult fiction, new fiction, large print, mystery, etc.  The second floor has the reference and non-fiction area, and bridges across to the teen center, while the third floor has study areas and reading lofts.  Natural light streams through the windows and scatter onto the cozy reading chairs around the perimeter of each floor, giving each reader a perfectly warm and sunny spot to settle down with a good book!

Fancy~
I may have gone a bit overboard in my excitement with the books and forgot to bring a tote, so I (very classily) balanced them into a pile supported by my arms and chin and walked verrrrrry slowly back home.  On my way out, I passed by an old man who commented, "getting ready for a crazy weekend, huh?  Have fun!"  You know me, crazy indeed!

Have a nice weekend, everybody!

  2. THat's a nifty library. I've not been there often, but I've always been impressed with the cultural offerings of the Twin Cities, and their library supports that. I've read, or have attempted to read, 6 of the books in your stack. Just read Lexicon on vacation next month and it's a lot of fun!

  3. This library is amazing!! Curious to hear what you think about Her Fearful Symmetry. I've owned it since it came out, but haven't been interested in picking it up to read yet...

  5. Of these books, I'm looking forward to reading Lexicon the most! I love stories about the supernatural, and the power of words.

  6. Rayna, it is such a blessing that it's so close to me! They have a nice parking ramp, but I'm too cheap to pay for parking, hahaha
