Do you keep your book receipts?

I am wrapping up the whole process of traveling for work (consulting projects, trade shows, job fairs, and interviews) this year.  I am currently typing this entry up at the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport (MSP), awaiting, I kid you not, my 18th flight since SEPTEMBER this year.

I always treat myself to a book and keep the receipt so I can tuck the airline ticket stub and receipt into the middle of the book because I'm sentimental like that.  I always like revisiting the books and finding the mementos - that way, I always remember where I was when I first dove into reading!

Without further ado, meet my newest bookfriend. He's exciting and successful and does his own thing, even though I hear that his dad is kind of a big deal.

  1. Yow, that's a lot of travelling! Glad you have books to get you through. I love the idea of keeping those mementos with the book! I hope this Hill is awesome -- I read HEART-SHAPED BOX and really liked it.

  2. This post makes me so happy - I thought I was the only one that did this!

I ALWAYS keep the receipt of the book from when I bought it and whatever I was using for a bookmark inside it - usually a train ticket, or a coffee receipt or something. It's so nice when you go to reread it two years later and you're reminded of the last time.

Also, I bought this book last week :) I really respect him for not trying to cash in on his Dad's name.

  3. I don't usually keep book receipts, however I did keep one for a book I got at the airport (apparently that's the way to do it) coming home from a friend's wedding. Though even then I kept it because it was stapled to a bookmark.

I hope you're having a good time with al your travel cos that is an INSANE amount. And Emily has good advice about racking up miles and getting upgrades and whatnot.

  4. Alley - I actually didn't keep book receipts until I found out that Borders was closing, so then I kept receipts from the books I bought from there and stuck them in as sad little keepsakes.

I'm actually glad to be done with most of my domestic travel for the year, though there's one last trip in December, but whew! Home sweet home!

  5. Hooray, Hanna! My books are stuffed with travel receipts, but what a GREAT idea to include coffee/snack receipts :)

Can't wait to hear your review - I only put this book down just now to reply to you (yeah, be honored, missie! lol)

  6. Emily, yes, it's pretty sappy, but I like knowing that these books accompanied me on a trip or helped me relax in a new town. That's why they're my 'bookfriends' :)

MSP's Delta wing is pretty snazzy compared to other forlorn gates! Alas, I'm with United because I have a mileagecard, but I feel like I'm not utilizing it to its full capacity in terms of upgrades or free tickets :( I'm most likely moving to MN, so I guess Delta's the way to go?

  7. Hello there, Kayleigh! Yes, keep little mementos with you so you can cherish your bookfriends even more :)
As for Hill - MAN. Started reading this book and haven't been able to put it down for the most part! It's equal parts creepy (Christmastown) and weepy (for the poor kids) and "Nightmare-Before-Christmassy".

  8. Ahhh, I love this idea! I've done it before by "accident", but now I want to start doing it all the time on purpose! I always enjoy finding something like this tucked into a book when I've bought a second hand book. And I just traveled by plane a few weeks ago! Too bad I didn't hang on to my ticket stubs ;)

  9. Brie - YES, hold on to your ticket stubs and mementos. It's the lazy girl's booking scrapbook ;)
